Warning: Apple iOS 6.1 Devices and Microsoft Exchange 2010

Apple and ExchangeIt has recently come to our attention that Apple mobile devices such as the iPhone and iPad running the latest operating environments (6.1 and 6.11) have a bug that is putting Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 servers under considerable stress resulting in reduced email delivery performance and in extreme cases, email server breakdowns. Some Exchange Servers have processes in place which may block your device in order to stop what it believes is malicious behaviour.

Microsoft have released an advisory recently suggesting that all Apple devices running the aforementioned OS should be blocked from synchronising to Exchange 2010 to prevent server performance issues and possible downtime (ref: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2814847?wa=wsignin1.0)

However, it’s not all doom and gloom as latest news shows a more amicable solution for Apple users. This post from Apple (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4532) recommends that users upgrade to the newly available iOS 6.1.2 (http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1639)

Apple and Microsoft have worked together to resolve this issue and we recommend that this update be performed to prevent interruption to your office email and calendar syncing abilities.

Tip: To find out what version of iOS you are using,
On your device, go to Settings -> General -> About.
